Just returned to the States from overseas and this commissary is great. Especially being walking distance from the Navy Lodge. Huge selection (culture shock after coming from Sigonella commissary!) & great prices.

I usually go to the Oceana Commissary or the Norfolk Commissary when I'm leaving the Hampton Veterans Center. I also used to go to Langley Air Force Commissary whenever I'd be in Hampton for during before the traffic would increase. Not to mention that I was a part of the D.O.D's study on combining all the commissaries decades ago. The Little Creek Commissary has a good produce section and a fresh seafood section. I liked their selections of healthy drinks and juices as well as the meat department. Great dairy section as well. My only complaint was the fresh ground beef. It as if they meat had ligaments or something you couldn't chew in it. I brought it home and made a meatloaf immediately so I was disappointed to find the quality of the meat ruined the entire recipe. I'd still recommend this location and will try it again. I like the health and beauty section as well.

They are Conveniently located (for me ;-) and I noticed they have stepped up their game with stocking up with more gluten free products. There are more gluten free pastas made from chick peas and are in penne or sea shells shape versus the standard gluten free spaghetti noodles offered and also by various companies. Surprise, surprise I have a list of numerous food sensitivities which include soy. I was ecstatic to find that they carry coconut amino acids which is an alternative to soy sauce and is also gluten free. For those who just need gluten free soy sauce, they do carry Tamari which is a Type of soy sauce that's gluten free but still contains soy. We do most of our grocery shopping at the commissary, but not all products are cheaper. They're a pretty solid place to grocery shop if you have military privileges. But other items we have other go to places.

Come here for the meat. They have an excellent selection of fresh beef, chicken, pork, and seafood products at pretty amazing prices. Prices on canned goods are pretty good and while I don't buy frozen dinners they have them at incredibly low prices, a friend of mine buys dozens at a time and takes them to work. Prices on snacks are really good too, chips, crackers, cookies, nuts, etc... You have to love that everything is tax free. I stay away from the fresh produce as it tends to be priced higher than Walmart and other local supermarkets. You won't generally find any real bargains in the deli section either. Oh yeah, you can find amazingly low prices on liquor at the adjoining package store too. I can't go on my own so I occasionally tag along when one of my retired military buddies is making the trip. I don't go very often but when I do you better believe the freezer in my garage is packed full. After our trip yesterday my wife put a few heavy objects on top of the chest freezer to keep the door from popping open.

Nothing beats the Commissary in terms of groceries!!! Tax free and lower cost price compare to the market. The commissary has also the best quality of steaks and meat. You can only find the seasonal products such as fruits and vegetables in this place. Sale surprises are always going on!!!

There's no reason that a commissary should ever receive anything less than five stars. All of the food is significantly cheaper, they're always incredibly organized, and there's always a sale. The Little Creek Commissary is still slightly better, and for two reasons, 1). their large selection of fresh seafood, and 2). their impressive produce section. I was able to get real exotic mushrooms! Usually when I have mushrooms on my grocery list, the choices consist of portobello and crimini. Neither of which are that exotic. They also had parsley and cilantro by the bushel... common in grocery stores, but not so much in commissaries, usually its packaged. Anyway, I never visit any commissary on the 1st or the 15th so I've always had really pleasant experiences. No matter when you go however, the snack aisle will test your patience. I just feel like every parent down the snack aisle has an average of 3-5 children, so you'll have to deal with overly excited rug rats, and frustrated as all hell adults. Its not nice. I typically leave my cart at the end of the aisle and maneuver my way through the crowds like Mario collecting coins.
